As leaders in their respective fields, Matrix Composites & Engineering, Baker Hughes, SICA, and the West Australian Government have joined forces to pioneer Australia’s first common use hyperbaric facility. This collaborative effort demonstrates a shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of subsea technology and fostering sustainable growth within the industry.

With the opening of the Matrix Hyperbaric Deepwater Common User Facility, comprehensive testing, and compliance verification for subsea equipment, including subsea control modules, can now be conveniently conducted in Australia, eliminating the need to send equipment overseas.

This not only reduces lead times for testing by approximately 90% but also significantly decreases carbon emissions associated with international transportation, contributing to a more sustainable future for the industry.

“We are thrilled to unveil the Matrix Hyperbaric Deepwater Common User Facility officially open and operational, a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation,” said Aaron Begley, CEO at Matrix Composites & Engineering. “By partnering with Baker Hughes, SICA, and the West Australian Government, we have created a facility that not only enhances operational efficiencies for local companies but also drives technological advancement in the subsea sector.”

Stephen Dawson, Minister Assisting the Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs said:

“We have an extremely busy global oil and gas sector that operates here in WA that requires this cutting-edge technology to support and maintain their subsea infrastructure.

“This new hyperbaric testing facility is a game changer, saving valuable time and money and creating local jobs and a new industry.

“This is exactly what the Cook Government is focussed on – investing in local businesses that are going to make a world of difference.”

The Matrix Hyperbaric Deepwater Common User Facility represents a significant step forward for the industry, made possible through the collective expertise and resources of SICA, Matrix Composites & Engineering, Baker Hughes, and the West Australian Government. This collaborative endeavour underscores the importance of partnerships in shaping the future of subsea technology in Australia.
