AIS COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF MATRIX COMPOSITES & ENGINEERING, MARKING THE NEXT PHASE OF ITS GROWTH STRATEGY

23 July 2026

AIS is delighted to announce that it has received all necessary approvals and completed the acquisition of Matrix Composites & Engineering, a leading Australian provider of advanced composite materials and subsea engineering solutions.

The completion marks a significant milestone for AIS, accelerating its strategy to expand its global footprint in the offshore energy, marine, and defence markets. The acquisition brings together two highly complementary businesses, combining AIS’ engineering, manufacturing, and project delivery expertise with Matrix’s globally recognised syntactic foam and subsea buoyancy systems.

The strategic location of Matrix’s operations in Australia is an important driver of growth for AIS. As part of the ASX-listed Advanced Innergy Holdings Group (ASX:AIH), expanding AIS’ presence in the region strengthens the Group’s ability to serve local and international customers, while positioning it to capitalise on increasing demand across the Asia-Pacific market.

Founded in 1999, Matrix Composites & Engineering employs more than 160 people and operates an 80,000 m² advanced manufacturing facility in Henderson, Western Australia. The facility is home to Australia’s largest custom-built composites manufacturing site and, since opening in 2012, has been recognised as the world’s largest composites syntactic foam manufacturing plant. Its strong track record in innovation enhances AIS’ ability to provide innovative solutions to customers worldwide. Together, the combined group will strengthen its advanced materials and engineering capabilities and enhance its position in protective subsea offerings.

Andrew Bennion, AIS CEO: “Acquiring Matrix positions us as one of the global leaders in subsea technical buoyancy and ancillaries and provides us access to a world-class manufacturing facility in the Asia-Pacific region with significant capacity. We are excited to welcome Matrix into the AIS family and look forward to combining our capabilities, building on our collective expertise and taking our market reach to new heights together.”

Aaron Begley, Matrix CEO: “Over the past 27 years, Matrix has grown from a specialist buoyancy provider into a recognised leader in advanced composite materials and engineering solutions, spanning energy, defence, resources and infrastructure. This achievement reflects the dedication of our people and the trust our customers have placed in us. As we become part of AIS, we are excited about the opportunities ahead to combine our expertise and deliver even greater value to customers around the world.”

The integration of Matrix into AIS marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for both organisations, with a continued focus on supporting our customers, suppliers, and partners.
